Presents SILK ROAD EXHIBITION Titled:

Splendour Perfected:
Trade Relations between Byzantium and the countries along the Silk Road

‘Splendour Perfected’ is a photographic exhibition about the Silk Road. This exhibition presents the route of the famous Silk Road, which began in ancient times from the city of Xian in China to the steppe lands of Central Asia and Mongolia into the Middle East and through to Europe. The trade route was reopened in early medieval times when Byzantium became the primary trade partner with the East, especially with Iran, Syria, and the Mediterranean countries where the main ports were busy sending silk, spices, porcelain and other luxury goods to Constantinople. The Silk Road became gained prominence and mystique particularly after Marco Polo’s book on his travels to China, to the court of Kublai Khan and his subsequent travels in the Central and Southern Asian regions.
