Counterintuitive conformities in post-colonial Central and South Asia

India and Central Asia have a long history of cultural and religious interchange, particularly from the beginning of the sixteenth century with the establishment of the Mughal Empire.  They share a rich Islamic past. This enquiry will seek to understand the confluence of national identity with the wider question of the myriad forms modernity is taking in the Islamic world by comparing emergent Islamic identity in both regions. Special attention is paid to the role of Sufi movements. (Saxena)
